History of the

    Tri-County Mustang Club

It all started in Santa Barbara....

Driving Excitement in TCMC: Are you looking for long, smooth, scenic drives along the coastal beaches, or the challenging rush of in-canyon depths full of twists and turns.   Tri-County Mustang Club calls this topography home, it's all there.  But it almost didn't happen.  The time period from first contact to restructure and rebirth as TCMC was only about 6 months.

HELP the History: Validation is requested from anyone with knowledge of actual events. This is still a work in progress. Behind the embryonic struggles of starting a new club were real people with different ideas, and differerent memories.  If you know anything please let us know.

See an SRTM image of Santa Barbara, birthplace of TCMC. Looking East back towards Mt Pinos.

Mt_Pinos-sat.jpg (10297 bytes)Taken from space, this West by Northwest looking shot is a Satellite Radar image of the farside of the snow covered backdrop we see the from the Ventura and Santa Barbara coastline.  San Luis Obispo is farther away, at the right side of this image, up the coast.  Santa Barbara would be towards the left upper corner, in the background and unclear.  Ventura and the Oxnard plain are not seen at this angle, and more towards the left.  Los Angeles would be to the sort of lower left. Interstate 5 is under the viewpoint and unseen. The Pacific Ocean's cool depths are nulled out in black at the top of the image

Kodak Viewpoint:

One of the astounding views from here is looking past sailboat masts up to snow clad peaks.

At some point nearly each winter, when the air's refreshed, crisp and cool -  walking along a beach or the docks can give you a backgroumd shot with a snow capped vista covering a longer horizon than this one (above).  It can make you feel more like you're in Alaska in a T-Shirt, than Southern California.

Publicity Change:

4th County, Los Angeles, recognition     see What are the Tri-Counties

Late 2002: TCMC membership recognized by majority vote Los Angeles County as  an included County (see new math) for  Tri-County Mustang Club  publicity purposes.   San  Luis Obispo County remains an active membership base and one of many TCMC cruise destination areas.   Check out the So Cal population numbers by county below ~  Then think possibilities  of how many of those people might be mustang enthusiasts that would want to be a part of a still growing club and popular hobby interest.  The inescapable logic, that L.A. population is noticebly larger and active in TCMC.

Firsts in TCMC:

None of the original founders are still in TCMC.

The 1st TCMC President, Rob Shafer, has since moved into the South Bay area of California, but is still a Ford guy. Visit his World Wide FoMoCo Site.

The 1st TCMC VP was Gabriel Hernandez, last reported as living in Santa Barbara with either his father or a sibling.

The 1st Treasurer was 'Corky' Tolar, whose real first name has been forgotten, but he lived in Carpenteria.

The 1st TCMC Annual Car Show was in Solvang, CA ~ and not called Ponies By The Sea

The 1st Newsletter, Galloping Mustang, was put out in 1984.

The 1st WEB SITE:    The INTERCHANGE  Dean Tsuji's unofficial TCMC site
