Santa Barbara Mustang Club or, Mustang Owners Club of Santa Barbara ??
In the foreground is the Goleta Valley and Santa Barbara Airport. The University of California Santa Barbara overlooks the Ocean on the first point of land. Where it looks lighter, looking just past the second cove from the bottom and just over the little hills right along the coast and the second point, is the Downtown area of Santa Barbara where TCMC started as Mustang Owners Club Santa Barbara. Joe Koehne was a Car Body Shop/Mechanic and presumably what was in back of 308 East Haley was a body shop? If you have any facts about this, let us know, webmaster@tcmustangclub.org What developed for about two months was the genesis of a real Mustang Club. Several people put some effort into the fledgling organization but it was not to be, too much contention developed at the top of the organization, which eventually killed the fledgling Mustang Owners Club of Santa Barbara before it really got off the ground. Fortunately for TCMC, within MOCSB (even past its demise) contention reigned supreme, and SBMC became just a reserved name. Was SBMC too restrictive geographically? Membership foundation of owners or Enthusiasts? Rob Shafer talked friend Gabriel Hernandez into continuing on with the creation of a Mustang Club, they did not want to just let their hard work die and decided to form a new club. They thought to call it the Santa Barbara Mustang Club, but there was further contention over the use of that name as a variant of Mustang Owners Club of Santa Barbara and objected to by the remaining founders, as a protected name. back to First Contact Rob and Gabe somehow had to come up with a new name for the fresh start. They tried various combinations, long since forgotten, and thinking it would open the club to a regional concept, settled on what we know today as the Tri-County Mustang Club. Virtual World: Shortly after the launch of this website in April of 2001, Rob answered a query about listing on his World Wide FoMoCo site, and was actually surprised to see that we hadn't changed the name, and that it worked as intended. We do have members in all three counties as originally conceived, and have had Los Angeles County involved as well.
